Desire to Inspire

How does one accomplish fulfilling so many desires all into one simple, cohesive and elegant package? This has been my struggle. My passion, desire and appreciation for so many things in life, both external and internal, many of which are contradictory to each other. Not only bringing them all together, but balancing them out as well.
What I continued to ask myself is how do I fulfill my appreciation and love of beautiful “things” while being true to my beliefs? My belief in that the true “treasures” in life are not found in a store but are found through intimacy with God. The true “possessions” in life are not bought but are earned by having a personal relationship with God.
I asked God. He answered. Little did I know what He was going to show me.
I knew exactly how I wanted to feel. I could easily create my surroundings into a stage of emotions. My home was simple, clean, fresh and grounded with hints of tradition while unexpected hits of whimsy and color rippled evenly throughout. I wanted to live in a paradise of peace and tranquility, an escape from the commotion that life inevitably throws your way, all while remaining balanced in a symmetry of light. I set the stage. God produced my dream into a reality.
While I am a professional at renovating and restoring homes. God is the professional at renovating and restoring souls. I did not need a simple make over, I needed a gut job! Just as in a home renovation, a soul renovation requires professional help (thank you, Jesus!), hard work (practice! practice! practice!), dedication (prayer, meditation and adoration), long hours (more than you ever anticipate), many tears (I cried myself a river, just like Justn Timberlake!), the will to let go of all that once stood as a representation of myself (bye, bye, ego!) and trust (for we walk by faith, not by sight), which is especially hard for a designer because for me, seeing is believing!
My desire is simply to inspire others to live the life that GOD DESIGNED, specifically for you.

I just found you through Cote de Texas and am still gasping at your beautiful work! But then I came here and read about your lovely soul. I too am always trying to find balance between my love for beautiful things and not being too attached. Though I dream, I’ll never have the kind of breathtakingly gorgeous homes you design, and I’m okay with that. It isn’t His will for me. My small, underdressed home is filled beautifully with two daughters and a husband that loves. But every once in a while I think I’d really enjoy a “designed” home!
Bless you!

I was so inspired to read about you today on the Cote De Texas blog. I am also a Christian and it is wonderful to see someone using the gifts that God has given to glorify Him. As I read about you, I was inspired because you are glorifying God. Thank you for sharing.

Dear Katie,
Just found you also on Cote de Texas. But I think I had seen a kitchen you had done for a friend in Southern Living Magazine. Not sure, the pics look alike.
I just got up from reading Psalm 99. In verse 3 it says “Let them praise Thy great and awesome name”. You have just done that. It is God’s great pleasure for you to give out of the treasury He has placed in you back to Him. I believe as you declare Him to be where your gift comes from and He gets the credit for the glorious work you do your treasury will only increase.
Blessings and peace to you,
Pamela

I echo what Kristen said. I am a Christian and a Texan, who has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has started a blogspot focusing on interior decorating, namely how to decorate on a budget because I too will never have a home like you. I am also fine with that because the Lord is just letting me stay alive to complete raising my grandaughter. I gave up my dream to ever see Europe in exchange for the grandaughter. I am so blessed as I know you are. Just remember if He brings you to it, He will get you through it!
Jesus loves you and so do I.

Hi Katie!
Congratulations on your continued success! I left a comment on CDT. I hear about you often from Catherine’s grandmother Dolores who we see in our shop all the time here in Brenham. The pictures of her were fabulous!I am so glad you are doing well and didn’t know you were in Louisiana! It was fun to see the turquoise banquette we worked on together when I was with Q. I never got to see most of the things I did there!!!My best to you. Next time you are in Round Top stop in and say hi!
